According to an article in PLos Climate by Stanford professor Patrick Brown and Berkeley professor Michael Eisen, a global phase out of animal agriculture over the next 15 years, and a switch to a plant-based diet, would halt the increase of greenhouse gases for 30 years. It would be like reducing CO2 emissions 68% through 2100. The changes would stem from the spontaneous decay of methane and nitrous oxide, and by returning livestock land to wild land.
