From John Keevert, First Unitarian:
As part of NY RENEWS fall campaign, I will be leading Zoom visits to Senator Jeremy Cooney and Assemblymember Sarah Clark. I hope you will consider joining me so they can see the breadth of support for climate legislation. This year we are pushing for passage of the
1. NY HEAT Act to remove the mandate for free gas hookups and manage the statewide transition off natural gas
2. Climate Superfund Act- requires fossil fuel companies to bear the cost of the pollution they have caused and the adaptation/mitigation needed.
3. Just Energy Transition Act, provides a plan to guide the replacement and redevelopment of New York State’s fossil fuel facilities and sites by 2030 as mandated by the CLCPA. In particular it manages replacement of dirty 'peaker plants' that are often found in low income neighborhoods in NYC. Background info will be provided in advance.
I will be visiting Sen Cooney (or his aide) on Oct 17th at noon, sign up to join me at https://actionnetwork.org/events/virtual-lobby-visit-with-senator-jeremy-cooney-2/
I will also visit Assemblymember Sarah Clark on Oct 25th at noon, sign up to join me at https://actionnetwork.org/events/virtual-lobby-visit-with-assemblymember-sarah-clark-2/
If you are in Jen Lunsford's or Harry Bronson's Assembly districts, you can sign up for visits with them at https://actionnetwork.org/event_campaigns/fall-2023-virtual-grassroots-lobby-effort-for-climate-jobs-and-justice?clear_id=true (note: zoom into Rochester area on map until you see 4 distinct blue markers. Click on Harry Bronson’s and/or Sarah Clark’s markers.)
With the widespread incidence of air pollution and flooding in NYS this year, we think legislators will be even more receptive to undertake substantive efforts to bring environmental justice to NYS.
